First Responder and EMR Training & Recertification in Charleston SC

Southeastern-CPR offers First Responder Training and First Responder Recertification in manufacturing facilities in Charleston, South Carolina, and across the state.

“The First Responder is an integral part of the Emergency Medical Services System. This is the first person who arrives at the scene regardless of the individual’s type of credential. The First Responder uses a limited amount of equipment to perform initial assessment and intervention and is trained to assist other EMS providers. This individual should be equipped with standardized core knowledge, skills and attitudes to function in the capacity of a first responder.” – US DoT

We discussed the need for CPR and AED training on the shop floor. But on-the-job emergencies go beyond cardiac incidents. Anything that can happen in life can happen at work including falls, fractures, respiratory emergencies, lacerations, stroke and other incidents.

As we said, professional EMT response times increase in a typical manufacturing facility due to distance, obstacles and unfamiliar terrain. Your shop needs trained emergency responders in-house who are ready to act, and Southeastern-CPR can help.

Southeastern-CPR bases this 40-hour on-site course on the United States Department of Transportation’s First Responder National Standard Curriculum. Over the course of seven sessions, you will learn to:

  • Recognize the seriousness of the patient’s condition or extent of injuries to assess requirements for emergency medical care
  • Administer appropriate emergency medical care for life threatening injuries relative to airway, breathing and circulation
  • Perform safely and effectively the expectations of the first responder

Southeastern-CPR will cover First Responder topics such as:

  • Human anatomy; the proper lifting and moving of patients
  • The airway
  • Patient assessment
  • The circulatory system
  • Illness and injury
  • Childbirth and children’s issues
  • Emergency Medical Services (EMS) operations

First Responder Certification… and RE-certification!

Upon the successful completion of the 40-hour class, you will earn First Responder Certification. This certification is valid for two years. During this time, you may attend refresher courses in First Responder operations. In two years, you must be recertified.

Southeastern-CPR offers First Responder Recertification training in the Charleston SC area, as well. This course is based upon the EMR National Continued Competency Program (NCCP), and requires a total of 16 hours of continuing education, including:

  • Airway/Respiration/Ventilation
  • Cardiovascular
  • Post-Resuscitation Care
  • Trauma
  • Medical Emergencies
  • Operations (triage, safety, etc.)
